All kidding aside, that is very sound advice. One of the first things that companies do when they start taking you seriously for a position is that they google (err... I mean, they Bing) your name and sometimes what comes up can be held against you. The reality is that they probably won't tell you, unlike the person in your example. You just won't get the position. Even email addresses can be held against you. For example, if your email is HeavyDrinker@aol.com, anybody recieving your resume may just throw it into the "ignore" pile and you will never know why, you will just know that you never got called.
