1. For Microsoft certifications we cannot provide a single URL that lists our certification, instead a verification url is provided along with the TranscriptID and the Access code. I have submitted the points in such manner by giving the Verification URL, TranscriptID and the Access code, But still the points are not approved. Can anybody tell me the reason ???

2. When I add points to community-credit, some of the them are approved within 2-4 days, but the remaining ones are not approved yet... any specific reason ??? (I have properly given the URL for verification)

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Total points earned ?

Can anybody tell me where to see the Total points I have earned till date ???

I could not agree more. The site is not aimed at .NET, it is a community for all technologies, all websites, all languages, etc. It is really aimed at rewarding those that contribute to the development community, not a specific technology. I guess my question would be what gives you the impression that it is aimed at .NET? I would love to get Ruby, PHP and folks from other technologies involved in our community, of course. My only hunch would be that since I am a .NET guy and most of the folks I roll with are .NET developers, that the community is made up of .NET folks more than anything else. There must be something about the site that transmits a .NET vibe and I am not quite sure what it is. I would love to hear your thoughts on it.

Re: Simplified points categories

When you select tags for a discussion post it hides the choices below the banner for the entire website.

For example when I logged in to post this comment, I was in the discussion board, pressed the log in button entered my email and pwd and it brought me to somebody else’s points list. So I proceeded to navigate back to the discussion board to find that I was no longer logged in, so I logged in a second time and it actually took.

Re: Simplified points categories

Hey Christopher,

Your idea about the description next to the category in the drop down also makes a world of sense. I wll basically be implementing both suggestions. Although the idea of a wizard is a great one, I think that "NEEDING" a wizard means that I missed the boat a bit in making the categories choices clear. It seems as though I need to clarify it a bit more so that even without the wizard, it will be easy to know the correct category to choose.

Re: Simplified points categories

Hey Christopher,

I think that there is definitely "room for improvement" regarding the point categories. I really think that the idea of a wizard is one of the best ideas suggested so far! I love it and it may really help to simplify this part which I agree is a bit confusing at times. I had actually bounced around some thoughts in my head, but never really came up with a good solution aside from just making the descriptions a bit clearer.

I am actually going to remove the BlogExample category all together. Back in the day, before blogs were as popular as they are now, an example was pretty easy to identify on a website. There was a section called examples and in it you would find different examples with a full explanation and a downloadable zip file. It was hard to mistake anything else as an example. Today, people's blogs are, in a sense, their websites. They write articles and examples as blog posts, which blurs the line a bit. It raises the question, is an example any less of an example because it is posted in a blog? Of course, that leads to another question on what is an "example"? There might be a blog post that has a few lines of code and a 1 sentence paragraph leading into it. e.g. "this is how to change the color of a label". Technically, it is an example, but it is still much different than a very detailed description that includes source code, walks the user through the code and also has a downloadable sample. Naturally, they can't be worth the same value. The line is blurred even more when it comes to articles, but that is a whole other discussion.

Re: Guest developers

That is an idea that I have bounced around a bit in my head in the past, so I am happy that you have suggested it as well. Great minds thnk alike. I think that it is one that can really drive traffic and recognition to the forums. One issue that I would like to solve before doing that is to get more people active in the forums and asking questions. Due to the nature of community credit, we have many more experts than beginners, thus many more people who can answer questions than are asking. If I were to have "Guest developers" moderating, they might get bored and the idea may lose momentum. I do have some ideas, such as the "Forum Fiesta" that aim to bring more people to the forum asking questions. A nice side effect to that is that it will also help bring the user groups together and the community together as well.

I would love to hear your thoughts on implementations. Do you think that the "Guest Developer" should be recognized for a week, for a month, for two weeks? I think that if the period of time was too long, it might discourage new "guests" for fear that they would not have time to dedicate to it. Maybe not. If we had more than one "Guest" at a time, would it take away from the prestige and make them feel less special? This is an idea that I would love to implement.

Re: Points for moderating Credits

Although I do like the idea of rewarding folks that moderate submissions, I would have to think of the best way to do so. Perhaps we can call yours the commission based system. I would modify your suggestion from a percentage based system to one based on the number of submission processed as well as the type of submissions. As you pointed out, processing articles is very time consuming because of the cross-checking that is required. I think that a badge would be a nice touch so that it is more publicly known that you are doing all of this work. Maybe a combination of the two even.
